Shoko Teruyama grew up in Mishima, Japan...(Mishima...a Japanese ceramic technique). She earned a BA in Japan, taught school, then came to the US and attended U. of Nebraska at Lincoln. She graduated from Wichita State and took a residency at Penland School of Crafts. She now lives and has a studio in Alfred, NY.
Her work is handbuilt of red earthenware with white slip and sgraffito decoration. Her patterns are those she has created and worked with many times.
