Scott has had teabowls in three consecutive KC Clay Guild Teabowl Nationals...2017, 2016 & 2015. These are the first 4 images in his gallery. I think this years piece is my favorite. I love the chunky planes of the walls and the sulphur yellow hue.
As you can no doubt see, he is a wood firer. In conjunction with that, he is inspired by the geology of the natural world.
Scott recently graduated from my alma mater, the University of Missouri-Columbia with an MFA.
Steven has been a Teabowl National participant numerous times AND in 2011, was our second juror. The first two pots in his gallery are this year's teabowls.
I have always admired his work and have pots of his going back years. The forms are alive and vital. The surfaces are always lusciously colored...and also full of movement.
Steven, a native of Kansas City, currently works & teaches out of 323 Clay in Independence, MO. There is so much to say about Steven Hill's work that I will leave YOU to discover more about it on his website:
