A multi-year participant and award winner, Alex Thullen changes things up every year. He creates beautiful work with equally beautiful surfaces.
He creates with a light colored clay and, after altering the surface with craved and stamped patterns, he creates emphasis and contrast by using a black matte glaze on the lower half. These happen to be my favorites.
The first two teabowls in his gallery are his accepted pieces to TBN 2017. Totally yummy, as are the rest of these images.
Alexander Thierry is a new arrival to the TBN scene. His work is so fluid and very tactile, I want to touch it. I know I will get to when I unpack the box it arrives in! The first piece in this gallery is his entry in TBN 2017.
An artist and educator, Alexander gravitates towards telling a story in his work, whether it is functional ceramics or sculptural/architectural.
Thierry holds 4 degrees, BA, BFA, MA and MFA; the first two from Truman State in Kirksville, Mo and the advanced degrees from Kansas University. He has experience in the public school and at the college level.
