I used to make slab pots with only two sides. They were a bit limiting as to what I could make. I happened upon Dan Murphy's work on Google Images and HAD to feature HIS two sided work!
I love the surfaces and forms. These bottles stand like crouching monolithic sentinels, arms in a meditating position, but ready to attack if needed. (Whoa...deep.)
Dan has a studio practice and teaches at Utah State. He obviously wood-fires his work and his usual approach is to NOT apply any glazes. He lets the circumstances of the firing affect his pots...the clay, the wood, the kiln, the time of year, the weather, even who is helping fire the kiln.
