No telling where I saw Laurie's work, but I loved it from the start. I like her illustrations of animals, (especially the crows), the subtle backgrounds of color and her 'rough' forms. As she states on her website, "These forms...become a canvas for depicting scenes that combine my interests in travel, art history and the natural world."
Laurie is from the Chicago area, via Wisconsin and has held numerous positions in the ARTS world of Wisconsin and Chicago. She has been an apprentice in the American Players Theater in Spring Green, Wisconsin among other positions. IN Chicago she has served as a Resident and Gallery director at Lill Street Art Center, museum educator at the Art Institute of Chicago, has created a 6-piece mural for the Hayes Park Natatorium.
She has been published in several '500' books and is herself, an author/illustrator. Toe in the Water is the story of a Snout (a gentle animal-like creature)
