Am I an APRIL FOOL today? NO! I am posting about Rachel Donner & her beauuuu-tiful work. I don't know where I saw her work first, but I fell hard for it. I *did* buy a beaker from her at NCECA...well, the gallery she was in. The lip chipped on the way home. I was heartbroken. It is such an astounding red.
I am a pattern junky and was drawn to her work from that aspect. She incises lines on many of her pots and fills them underglaze. Rachel wipes that off, leaving underglaze in the incised lines. Then she uses tissue paper stencils cut with a paper punch and applies underglaze to greenware. It looks like a fun process. Below is great video showing the process.
Rachel was lucky enough to grow up in Taos, New Mexico, one of my favorite places on earth. She studied Ceramics at the University of Northern Colorado and went on to do a some residencies, before returning to New Mexico and full-time pottery making. She currently lives in Santa Fe.
