Holy Smokes! Jamie Kirkpatrick is a very fired up potter...pun intended. He wood fires, soda fires, oxidation and sagger fires.
He is a first timer in KC Clay Guild Teabowl National and his accepted piece is the first in his gallery. This little beauty is a thrown stoneware piece, altered on the wheel, with an iron-saturate glaze, soda-fired followed by a holding cycle in electric kiln to develop iron crystals. His other two entries are to it's right.
Jamie earned an MS in Geology and then an MFA from East Carolina and now lives in Golden, Colorado where he works as a potter and ceramics instructor. Before that he was a Resident at Pottery Northwest in Seattle, Washington.
The first two images in Joe's gallery represent his accepted entries in this year's Teabowl National. WOW! The other images represent another entry and current work, plus his installation entitled the 'Flow Chart:' series. These forms represent "Clouds, mountains, waterfalls, wind currents, rays of light, and the growth of vegetation..." (http://artaxis.org/joe-page/)
He attended Knox College and Alfred, earning a BA and an MFA, respectively. He is now an assistant professor and area Head at Southern Illinois State Uni. in Carbondale, Illinois.
