Ice cream colored fabulousness! I like the line work, especially since much of it is on the diagonal. It make me look around the piece. I like the angle the pieces were photographed. It gives the impression of an optical illusion. I love the simple 'complexity' of each piece.
Sakumoto creates each piece in a very unusual way. She pours colored clay in a plaster mold, then upon removal, she stacks them up and fires them in a high fire kiln.
She was born in Okayama Prefecture in 1978. She has an advanced degree and teaches at the Uni. of Okayama. She does not have a webpage, but click on the link for images of her process.
I want one!
