Pattern and handbuilt...that is what drew me to Jay's work! This is no simply designed work though. Jay digital technology to design the form. These 'patterns' are laid on slabs of clay so they can be cut out and folded into the form desired. He also uses custom stencils create the glaze patterns on the clay.
Fascinating! I am always amazed at how artists create their work!
Jay was educated at the Universities of Wisconsin and Minnesota (BS and MFA respectively). He was a graphic designer and is influenced by technology mixed with traditional ceramics.
